Fish are being stocked INTO the lake. This pipe comes from a truck that is “pouring” the fish in. They are trying to swim back up the pipe as they are being poured in, thus it looks like they are jumping out of the water.
Still cool looking though.

This happens sometimes at fish farms, especially with salmon. Their instinctive urge to spawn where they are born is overwhelming. They will go to the absolute extreme to follow the ’scent’ in the water to their birthplace, sometimes killing themselves in the process. Not sure if that’s what these trout are up to, but I know salmon do this type of thing.

notice the highest trout is halfway in the stream of water, and yet it doesn’t cause any disturbance. This leads me to believe he isn’t actually going against the flow, but instead. he started on the other end of the pipe and is fighting against the current not to get dropped into the pond. Much like they do when they transport trout in tanks, as they drain the tank, the fish fight against the water and try to stay oriented “upstream”. So i say this picture is cool, but story is not factual.

I don’t think this is fake. That is definitely normal trout behavior, but the picture could have easily been taken of the fish being poured out of the pipe.

I still remember the day I tried to install MT 3. It was horrible! The official installation guide is so hard to understand.

Ugh, PERL! I ran Movable Type way back when it was pretty much the only game in town, and it was great. I’m just not sure I’m ready to step back into the world of PERL. On the other hand, it’s a very capable system and handles a load very well since it’s writing static files. With that being said, it’s still PERL. bleh

The fact that it’s Perl is a let down. I ran into all sorts of problems just trying to get it installed.

It’s at the point where it could make a difference, but it’s not likely. Wordpress has already got a strong following, millions of users, and a steady growth stream. People like John Chow recommend it, so all of the “get rich quick” guys aren’t going to just switch platforms.

Moveable Type is not a bad piece of software - it just needs alot and it needs it quickly. It’s that simple.

Honestly, I didn’t like Half Life 2 at all. I played the original and loved it, but when number 2 was released years later, I was not impressed. In the time between HL1 and HL2, there were a ton of FPS released. Then when HL2 came out, I just didn’t think they did enough to compete in this now flooded genre. It took forever to get anywhere in the story, and i found myself asking “why the hell am i still running around shooting monsters?” I am not a game critic, but I don’t think Half Life 2 was innovative. Sure, it had cool physics, some cool monsters, but other than that I was disappointed. I think portal is great, and i think TF2 and CS source are great, but I just can’t get excited about the Half Life series anymore.

Just to give you some reference, I am a very picky gamer. I lose interest very quickly in a game if its anything short of amazing. There are very few games that i have ever beaten, including F.E.A.R., Warcraft 3, and a handful of others. I can give you a list of about 30 games in every genre that i have played and never beaten because i lose interest.

Philosophy major from Princeton over here. Those numbers are actually lower than they were a few years ago, so Princeton kids are either improving or it’s just at the bottom of the margin of error.

Personally, and this sounds really strange, but I hooked up with almost exclusively studio arts girls my Junior and Senior year when I decided to take vis arts classes, but a couple I didn’t know what department they were in until after we got together. Before that it was Theatre majors, who aren’t even on this list. Interestingly, I took ONE Art History class my entire career, and it was a seminar, and there were only eight students, but I ended up getting together with a girl in that class on the first date.

But I took a lot of anthro classes and didn’t hook up with any of the girls in those classes even though they have a low proportion of virgins. (Although they may not have been majors.) Huh.

Maybe the art students just attend better parties? All the research goes out the window when there’s drunken people packed in a room.

Finally a study that actually does some good.

Yeh, I’m one of these. I make women jealous with my metabolism. I really do eat a lot though; I’ve been known to eat an entire pizza pie (Brooklyn style, not that pan crap) for lunch and still be hungry afterwards. The problem with fast metabolism is you have to keep up the eating in order to keep the weight. If you eat less for even just a week, you lose weight.
Some things not mentioned in the article: I think the average you can gain is something like 4lbs. a week. I read this somewhere; I can’t remember where, though. The biggest thing (in my experience), drink a lot of water. It seems to help.

In regards to that weird NEW BLOOD game, it isn’t actually The Red Cross that owns that + symbol as a trademark. Johnson and Johnson legally has control of that symbol, but they’ve allowed the Red Cross to co-opt for their use. J&J has successfully sued the Red Cross in the past when they’ve tried to use that symbol by making a profit, (i.e. selling bandages with the symbol on it to get some revenue), they’re only allowed to use it for non monetary reasons.

I think he has to press the button to turn the light on when he touches the surface. The mapping from blob position in the sensor to position on screen is a strictly 2d transformation that assumes the LED is in the plane of the touch surface.

Well, I got home from work and built one of those IR pens. It works but the IR LED I used (the only one they had at Radio Shack) does not have a very wide spread. It only gets recognized by the remote within about a 15 degree angle, which means the LED has to be pretty much pointed at the remote the whole time.

Would be a cool idea for projector manufacturers to include.

Like the comment above said - No, a webcam would not be anywhere near as good. The wiimote does blob detection and returns blob positions to your OS rather than image data that you have to process yourself.

Holy fuck…you guys need to get over this whole “No one’s gonna freeload off ME!” mentality. Pay your taxes to people you trust and you can have universal health care for everyone, not just kids. The “health insurance industry” is a scam designed to do one thing: separate you from your money without actually giving you anything in return. Wouldn’t it be better if you spent your money on taxes destined for universal health care where everyone is guarenteed treatment? Or would everyone rather give it to the insurance companies and still have to pay for treatment, yet be secure in the knowledge that no one is freeloading off you?

the President finally does something worthwhile during his presidency. This law is socialist garbage with the intention of “saving the children” it would just be a way to set up new more inept federal government agencies.

How the headline should have read:

This country is 9 trillion dollars in debt and growing at a fantastic rate, it’s just not possible to hand money out to everyone that needs it. The country has a 800 billion budget deficit this year and it could easily be 1 trillion next year.

No where in the bible does it say anything about Jesus being born on December 25th. We know the origin of Christmas was the early church re-branding various winter solstice holidays to assist in the conversion process. Guys, this whole Christmas thing is fake, has almost nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus Christ and everything to do with moving merchandise and making money.

Seems like nothing more than a political ploy to “oust” non christians. F ur gods and F ur religion if you try to impose it on me. Religion is a sickness and a poison.
