  I hate to point out the obvious, but why is it so difficult to just change your email password once in a while? Have we become that lazy?

  emails are plaintext. Anyone with a hex editor and a packet sniffer can read them. Encrypt your mail, then no one can read ‘em without your private key so hacking your account is moot.

  Remember kids if your breaking into someones account and see attachments saved in .htm make sure you open them in text editors instead. Disable macros in any word documents you open. Don’t run execs etc etc. After all YOU got their password. who knows what other stupid shits lurking around their account waiting to blow up in their(or your) face. Its a good idea but i don’t think it will get some of the more intrepid crackers. I wouldn’t rely on it as proof your account hasn’t been breached. Especially now that the technique is front page digg material.

  My web mail (Fastmail) tells me what time the last login was whoever logged in. It also tell me when the last time someone tried to log in and was unsuccessful. Not too hard from there to figure out if someelse has logged in.
