But we all know damn well that's not the way it was intended. racist underpinnings won't go away if we pretend they don't exist. The internet in general does skew younger, right? I am 21 and the only reason I knew that “monkey” often offends is because my dad once told me a story about some sports caster who got fired for yelling something to the effect of “look at that monkey go”. I remember being bewildered at the time as to why it was so offensive, why it was such a big deal, and why he even said it..Same here.. and I think the best response is to not treat this as racist as it validates the shirt as offensive which I now think was the intention of the shirt maker.anyone who would wear such an offensive thing emblazoned across their chest would almost certainly have the iq of a monkey.Everyone seems to be forgetting that even if it is merely comparing Obama to the lovable Curious George, it's still racist because Curious George is racist. Think about it: the Man in the Yellow Hat - a white man - travels to Africa, kidnaps a native, and takes him back home (ON HIS BOAT). Despite this, Curious George is always portrayed as happy about his situation - obviously an attempt to whitewash the slave trade.
