  So when China rules the world and American workers are forced to make bra’s at 3 cents per hour for the Chinese, will it be ok to pay slave labor? Will it be ok to call it free trade? In 50 years it wont be so inconceivable, perhaps Americans might be migrating to China. Perhaps it’s time to be instilling a different set of ethics and morals on the world now, for the sake of America’s grandchildren.

  FYI, Victoria Secret was started in Columbus, Ohio (USA) and tries VERY VERY hard to cover that fact up. They want you to believe they are NYC, Los Angeles, London, and a big famous design house. I’ve met the couple who started and owned it and in fact they are a bunch of hicks from Ohio, who are all about squeezing money out of everything. They usually employee call centers in Ohio to answer support calls.

  Yes, but you see, in the magical world of the Free Market, these people willingly subject themselves to this treatment… so it’s okay! And don’t forget, mean old government regulations to protect them are unnecessary since the magical free market will make corporations do the right thing… by magic!

  Okay. But are you okay with a company that can retaliate against workers for bringing up physical abuse and asking the police to enforce the law? Let’s assume that it is a perfect free market environment, instead of a place with corrupt cops (that’d never happen in the free market, right?). Let’s assume that as soon as the police are alerted, they will arrest the people responsible.

  Firstly, if there is competition in the labour market, people working for the said company would rather leave for a lower pay at a non-abuse company.

  I’ve been boycotting Mal-Wart for several years for that exact reason.

  Who are you to say what someone can and can’t subject themselves to? What if someone’s indulging in some consensual S&M in their basement… are you going to stop them? If not, why not?
